Interested in Supplements? You’re Not Alone

Upon hearing the word supplement, we often think of large vitamins stuffed into a plastic container. Yet today, the supplement industry features much more than that. Whether it be products like vitamins, specialty supplements, herbals and botanicals, sports nutrition supplements, and weight management supplements, or new ingredients like beta-alanine, caffeine, and citrulline, there is bound to be something that piques your interest. And with 55 to 60% of consumers worldwide taking supplements on a daily basis, you would not be alone.

In 2020, household purchases of vitamins rose to 90%, largely due to poor global health factors such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, the supplement market hit record growth in 2021 at a compound annual growth rate of 14.5%, a number that is only projected to rise. This increased confidence in the industry can be attributed to new scientific backing for supplement effectiveness. In fact, recent studies have found that vitamins may improve physical and mental outcomes, reduce workout injuries, and slow the rate of brain shrinkage.

As the general popularity of supplements increases, so has the popularity of several new categories and brands. New categories such as sleep gummies, irish moss, and mushroom coffee have seen an exponential increase in use over the last five years. Companies like Your Super and truBRAIN are now collecting 70 million and 11.8 million dollars in revenue respectively. With the industry and its complexity still growing, remaining updated is the best way to begin taking full advantage.
